July 15th
im not very good with this blog thing. I was at first, and now its just down the drain. I would try and catch up but Im not.
Yesterday (July 14th) was me and Ryan's extra credit anniversaray. Which I forgot about and then recieved the most surprising flowers in my office ever. I missed a call from the front desk and when I called him back he said, "Umm Brittany you just got flowers and Miguel is picking them up and bringing them to you. you must have done something right!" Apparently Johanna saw them coming down the hall and came with Miguel to give them to me. They are gorgeous. Everyone has been gawking over them since theve been here. I just dont get how Ryan delivered flowers all the way from California? Haha, just kidding. He is the best and I was totally surprised. I even cried, which is sooo unlike me. Gag. And I feel like Im obsessed with them and noone else gets it. I get it from my mom.
To make things better, BEKAH IS HERE! Yay! She got here yesterday around 3. We went to Century 21 and it sucked. Then went to Lily's and Union Square. Anndddd now Im off work for the entire weekend! No work Friday because none of my bosses are here- how convenient that Bekah is in town!

Today is July 9th
and I'm sitting in my office drinking green tea. I ran to work today in the pouring down rain in rainboots, a skirt, and an umbrella. Its a good day so far. I havent blogged in a REALLY long time, I know. So Im going to try to sum it all up? Starting from the Friday when Candace got here....
Friday (June 25th): Friday was a bad day. I left work early and went with Lily to the airport. The DVF car dropped me off at my place and I then went to Grand Central to pick up Candace where she was waiting. I always forget how pretty she is until I see her again. For dinner Katie, Lauren, Candace, and I went to Blockheads (for the first time) and it was the best mexican and margaritas ever! The margarita is called the Mexican Bulldog (I think). It starts with a full frozen margarita, then a shot of tequila on top, and a coronita with a lime in it upside down. So by the time you're done with the marg, youve had a beer, marg, and a shot. We all stumbled out after one- it was awesome. That night we went to Hudson Terrace. Erin, Allison and Jordan met us for a while. The most memorable moment of that night was my feet hurting. Never have I had to sit down in a club and take off my shoes because they were hurting so bad. Stupid Steven. We actually took a cab to the village, got out, and realized Katie did'nt have her ID because her wallet got stolen and that the bar was $10 to get in sooo we went home.
Saturday (June 26th): Took Candy to 5th, Central Park, SoHo, Canal/China Town, Century 21, Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty, and then for NYC pizza before going home! Thats a lot in one day. it took a lot of convincing to get me to go out but Candy drug me out and we went to Amnesia. It was dead at first but we ended up having a really good time and doing some crazy stuff. We stuck into VIP to some famous guys birthday and had Patron on ice. It was kinda awesome.
Sunday (June27th): We were moving very slow and were very hungover. The plan was to make it across the Brooklyn Bridge and we never made it anywhere near brooklyn. Katie, Katie, Candace, Lauren, and I had a delicious breakfast (at 1pm) at the Morning Star Cafe. Then, in 1000 degree weather we went to Times Square and the Forever 21 there. All of us went to dinner at Cafetasia in the les and it was soooo gooodd and cheap! I had a yummy Duck and rice dish.
Monday (June 28th): I booked my flight to NC Sun night. Went to Bendel's early to take to my designers and they were really understanding which was nice. Everything else that happened for the rest of the day sucked. Delta cancelled my flight as I was just packed. I cancelled my shuttle because i didnt know what to do. When i decided to go to the airport after cussing Expedia out and not talking to Delta i couldnt get another shuttle. I had to take a cab, which should have only been $30. While in the cab, I FINALLY talked to Delta who said the only flight was leaving from JFK at 2:00. When I told the cab driver to go to JFK, not LaGuardia, he had to start the meter OVER because its a flat rate. I ahd to pay the first $13, then the flat $45 plus tip. Once I got there the whole terminal was a wreck. They were cancelling and delaying flights left and right. I dont even know what time we left because I couldnt care anymore. Once we got on the plane and were in line for lift off JFK shut down all runway traffic and we had to sit on the runway for an hour. I got home at 9:30. I dont understand why it took me 12 freaking hours to get from NYC to NC. Ridiculous.
I have a funny story. On the plane, I sat beside a Jewish guy and on the other side was a cute young couple with an 18 month old. He was the cutest and most well-behaved child ever. Long story short: the guy sitting beside me didnt speak to me at all until we were lifting off. He (Joe) asked me why I was in NY and we ended up talking the entire time. He was 21 and grew up in the Jewish community in Brooklyn (which has a rather large Jewish population). He told me all about his religion and entire life. Joe mentioned that women and men are kept separrated until they date which is around 21 or 22. Then he said, "Actually, you're the first girl Ive ever had a conversation with besides my mother and sisters." CAN YOU BELEIVE THAT? ME? I was the first girl hes ever spoke to in his entire 21 year old life. And he picked me, on a plane. Crazy.
The rest of the week was hectic. It was nice to be home because I miss NC and I appreciate it now. The week consisted of Lily, Lily's dad, wine, homecooked breakfast, Goodberry's, Cameron Village, Bailey, DRIVING around listening to music, Red Room, Tobacco Road, Amra's, pool with the girls, drinks by the pool, Coronas, sun, Arthur, Mom and Dad, Mexican with Amber, Joel, and the rents, family bed with the girls, chickentime, being Lily's boyfriend, skyping Ryan and Dave, big TV, laying out with the fam, shopping, naps and Bekah's parents, and mosquitoes. In the middle of all that Christan, Amber, Kat, and I made a road trip up to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to see Rebecca! The roadtrip was enjoyed but the occasion was unfortunate. It was nice to see Rebecca, her family (including Crumpet and Houdini), finally meet Veronica, and her hometown. On the way back we made a stop in Philly to get an authentic Geno's cheesesteak.

Mon-Thursday
Monday:
Nothing exciting. Started watching Gossip Girl from the beginning with the roomies- were addicted. I read in a magazine that Jennifer Aniston gets her body from doing 250 crunches everyday. Sooooo I'm doing 300 and leg lifts. Ill let you know how it goes.
Tuesday:
At Bendel's the handbag designers set the color story for the next 5 months, 5 months in advance. So these boards are filled with color swatches, leather, fabric, magazine cutouts, prints outs, and anything that inspires color. Today, I had to copy every article and make a new set of boards for the sanctuary(the large merchandising room filled with boards) because the merchandising team wanted the designers boards and they couldn't have them. Ahhh the life of an intern.
Wednesday:
The first REALLY hot day in NYC. Everyone was complaining but its still not as hot as NC. Nothing exciting happened at work. Actually nothing happened until 3:00 when i started helping Amy put things together for the Thursday meeting. Didn't leave work until 6:30, which is the latest so far. BUT I did go to the big J.Crew sale in Rockefeller Center after work. It was so hot and crazy in there that when I took my vest off I had sweat stains on my shirt, all while I'm trying clothes on in front of a mirror because I didn't want to wait in the 25 person dressing room line. It was a mess but I got some great stuff. For dinner I cooked a huge stir fry with eggplant, onion, yellow and green squash, tomatoes, bell pepper, and sun dried tomatoes. Delicious. After, Katie and I went late night to the grocery store and got back a little late. No gossip girl. Crunches, shower, and bed.
Thursday:
Helped Amy pick out materials for the meeting at 11:00. Meeting lasted until 1:30 and it was pretty painful. Tomato sandwich for lunch. Ate half a jar of nutella after work. Not kidding. Then Katie and I went to NYU bookstore (so I could exchange a hoodie), Nordstrom Rack (returning something), Forever, and Kmart. Amber, if you're wondering, the only thing I bought was shampoo. Came home, cooked dinner, and watched gossip girl with the roomies. Painted my nails (yes my hand nails!) while I skyped Bekah. Did my crunches, showered and went to bed. I feel like such a boring person.
Friday:
Here I am, at work. This morning when I got out of the subway a crazy cracked out homeless man was annoying an MTA worker when he saw me and started screaming, "LOOK AT THOSE LEGS! LOOK AT EM! JUST LOOK AT THOSE LEGS! YOU KNOW WHY WOMEN SHOW OFF THEIR LEGS? FOR MOSQUITOES!!!! WOMEN SHOW THEIR LEGS SO MOSQUITOES CAN EAT THEM!!!!!!" over and over. The escalator is total of 3 stories(?) and I could still hear him at the bottom screaming about legs and mosquitoes when Id exited the subway. This, my friends, is why I wear my sunglasses 24/7 in the subway. Please note: if this was NC I would have turned around and told him to f off but, its not.
Right now Candace is on a plane to NYC for the weekend! I'm so excited!

13,14 Thursday through Sunday

Thursday: Went shopping on my lunch-because I can- and put things on hold. Ha, then went shopping at Gap and Nine West after work. Walked half the wrong way home, naturally.

Friday: Carlos' technical
designer, George, was out and Carlos asked me to work in Illustrator and PS for him. I did some color swatches and texture mapping. It was hard at first because i havent done it in so long but, him and Heather were impressed with what i could do! So exciting! After work I ran to Kmart to get a long mirror. Im not quite sure how weve been living without one all of this time. You can only imagine how much weve been standing on the toilet and bathtub edge. We were supposed to go out to dinner with Jon but we all accidentally took naps. Working a 9 to 6 job sucks and makes you really tired!

Anyways, pregamed with some friends downstairs and then went with them to The Black Bear Lodge. It didnt suck, but it wasnt what we were looking for so we got a cab to the Gansevoort to meet up with Jon and his friends. Who would have thought that we would end up at the Gansevoort again! Picked out bottles and stayed all night.

Saturday: Lauren, Katie, Jon, one of his friends, and I had lunch on the patio at Dos Caminos. Delicious Mahi Mahi tacos, prickly pear magaritas, and guac. While we were eating lunch 4 secret service suvs pulled up and set up shop right on the street beside us. Literally there were at least 15 FBI/secret service agents sitting in cars and posted around the area for an hour and half. We had no idea what was going on until this guy left the restraunt beside us and it was like something out of a movie. It was as if they were trying to move the president into the car without getting killed. While all of this was going on the some of the SUVs were blocking off the street. Then they all sped off. It was the craziest thing ive ever seen- and we have no idea who he was. The only speculation is that he must be a world leader or something? Should have taken a picture (I was too worried i was going to get shot).

Pinkberry afterwards! Original froyo with raspberries, hazelnut
praline crunch, and brownies. We went shopping for the rest of the day and went to see Serendipity (the restraunt from the movie).
Lily came over ready to go out and Katie even did my hair. We were completely ready and never went out. We were so tired we couldnt motivate to leave. Keeping the tradition, Lily and I changed into Pjs and went to get street meat.

Sunday: Katie, Katie, Lauren, and I left for the Union Sq Market and got on the wrong stupid train and ended up in the upper east side. It was a disaster and when we finally made it to US we found out that the farmers market is replaced by an art fair. Haha. Spent alot of time in Rugby- bought a green oxford and light blue rugby shirt! Went to the NYU bookstore. While I was trying on hoodies I stuck my head out and Miller (a friend from school that i know from going to the basketball games with Bekah and her dad) was standing in between Katie and I. Out of all the places in the world I see someone from school in the NYU bookstore on a Sunday. Anyway, left with a new NYU hoodie and free iced coffee. Nom noms. Walked across town to Chelsea Market for the fresh market. Bought a watermelon and wanted to smack myself for having to carry it home. Went home. This next part is for all of my friends from home that want to smack me when you ask me to pick out a restraunt and I take 3 hours to pick: Katie, Lauren and I did exactly that for 2 hours. Where did we end up going? take out chinese. It was hilarious and absurd.

11 and 12
Tuesday: Helped Christine pick out new spring materials for the SLG (small leather goods). Slow day again. There was supposed to be a free Drake concert at seaport but then someone there told us they were 3 blocks away and couldn't move, therefore we did not go. Went to the grocery store again. I feel like we go to the grocery store everyday.
Wednesday: Late day, didn't have to be there until 11. Did some collating (which I do a lot of) and then went to a meeting with the entire design team that took a very long time. It was cool to hear the nu
mbers needed for production etc. needed to predict design materials. The directors also yes/no the materials Christine and I picked out. Kinda cool because in 6 months these will be in store! Helped/hung out with Amy for the rest of the day. Went to Nine West after work and bought some new shoes. Asked for directions on the subway and ended up meeting the creative director/owner for Sam Lehr jewe
lry (sold in Saks and Neiman Marcus)? Dinner and bed. I feel so boring because all I want to do when i get off work is eat and go to sleep. =(

Monday (10th day)
Monday, monday, da da daaa daa da da....Yesterday was defintely a monday at the office. In the morning I went to M&J Trim and 10 other bead/trim stores in the garment district with Christene. There is so much stuff in NYC its unbelievable; you can make anything you have ever dreamed. Ate in the park. Helped Christene after lunch and Amy before leaving work. Blah Monday.
Ate an entire container of Trader Joe's chocolate covered raisins THEN went to the gym with the girls. Some of Katie's boys from the 16th floor came to move their furniture and they got suckered into moving the entire apartments furniture! Ha, now Katie and I have NONLOFTED BEDS! Yay, this is great!
Second weekend!

Friday night:
Well I guess you could say Friday night was fun, but if you ask anyone that was with me I was angry all night. Besides that, it was an awesome night. Katie, Lauren, Lily, and I started at our apartment and then met Brooklyn and her friends at Hudson Terrace. Nice open roof bar but the DJ sucked and they let too many people in. The middle level was really nice with chandaliers all over the ceiling. Free black label? Maybe thats where the anger came from. Left there, went to Tenjune- mentioned someones name at the door and they opened up the gates and let us right in? The rest is a blur but we went to SL and 1Oak and one of them was really hard to get into so Katie and Lauren went home. Somewhere inbetween this we took a limo to the next one, free

martinis, free champange, changed my ethnicity to persian, made the biggest mess with gyros in the back of a cab, snuck Lily into our building again, and
spooned her in my twin bed. The next morning we found a loaf of bread in the bathroom and a plate of olive oil and vinegar beside the toilet? The only thing we paid for all night? cabs.
Saturday:
Saturday:
Started off going to the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party in Madison square. Had delicious BBQ ribs from Texas, walked around hungover, and got some free stuff. Walked around the outdoor market in Union Square, eating samples of delicious apples, jams, tomatoes, and alive chickens out of the back of a sketchy white van. Just kidding (inside joke). Next we went to China town so the girls could get fake purses from a lovely black man. This is when we picked up our first
ethnic man to take home and keep in our closet. The next was the Dominican at the shoe store, then the Egyptians at Baskin Robbins. Obviously, on our 15 block walk to Century21 we decided to stop in every shoe store a
nd every ice cream joint on the way- im not kidding. Century21 is the best store ive ever stepped foot in; I spent 4 hours in there and way too much money. My first splurge in NYC is from here: a gorgeous forest green silk Graham and Spencer top. We were so tired and still hungover from the night before that we just ate dinner and went to bed early.
Sunday:

Lauren, Katie, and I went to the Peurto Rican Day Parade to try to see J.Lo but, we were too late. Then we went to The Garage flea market- I got a 60's gold clutch with a big bow on the front for $15! So I read about this "awesome, super cheap" Grand Market in a book and it
sounded like the best place ever so we made the trip in the rain to get there. We get out on Canal street, which is not where we wanted to be in the first place in the rain, and end up trekking a mile through Chinatown to get there. I cant even begin to explain to you the horrifying things that were in this place.

1. No one spoke english
2. We were the only white people in there
3. There were black chickens, duck tongues, pig hearts, frog legs, baby heads, and anything else that makes you vomit.
4. We're never going back to Chinatown. Ever.
On the way home we went to Nordstrom Rack and Trader Joe's (should have got the chocolate covered pretzels). I found a men's Burberry pullover that I wanted so bad for myself and the girls wouldnt let me get it because it is a ridiculous purchase but, im going back to get it TODAY. I cant stop thinking about it and I cant find it anywhere online.
Finally home, we cooked dinner, and started the most ridiculous stupid ripped-off system of laundry ever. And I just realized I left a pair of undies in that room. Crap.

8th and 9th day (Thurs, fri)

Thursday: Really good day yesterday. Amy told me in the morning that I was going to be going to M&J with Christine(the small handbags designer). M&J is a "trims, finding, beads, jewels, ribbon, and other pretty things that go on bags store" and she was going to give me her credit card to go pick out stuff that I thought would look good on the new designs! Actually, we didnt end up going because were going to go today but, i cant believe she was going to let me go out for the day and pick things for the new designs!
Later on, Amy and I sat down to pick out the new fabrics to order for sample bags. She basically told me her career story starting with college and explained how the entire handbag industry works. We literally talked for 2 hours until we left for the day. It was a really awesome day.

Friday: Sooo today we finished stuff and around 11 Amy, Christene(small hand bag designer), Kamesha (production), and I left the office to go shopping for the day! We first went to the DVF and Helmut Lang sample sales before heading to the lower east side for the cutest lunch ever at The Meatball Shop.
I got a Brioche Bun with spicy pork meatballs, provolone, and parmesan cream, an arugala apple salad, and a glass of wine. My boss toasted to my first summer in NYC! It was lovely and delicious. After lunch we walked around Noho and went to boutiques and vintage shops. The shopping was to look for inspiration for the new bags and I ended up finding a really cute bag that they bought to show the CEO. Such a good little intern. Boug
ht some new sunglasses and went home. Now im about to get ready to go out! Ill let you know how it goes!

Monday: outfit was stupid so i didnt even take a picture of it. linen pants and white tank. maybe i will later. random stuff at work=not much.
got lily, met up with Brooklyn and her friends at the Frying pa

ropes anyway. still ended up staying for a long time.

Tuesday: research all day for amy and carlos. getting on the elevator with carlos and he freaks out about my bag(my all tan MK) and loves it. he wanted to check it out after lunch for inspiration for a new bag. yayyy! went to the grocery store and fruit stands. $2.50 for a double box of raspberries! thats one thing that i will miss about new york, the fruit stands. then went to home depot with katie for a long mirror because some how weve all been ge
tting dressed everyday without a long mirror. skype the bf. anddddd sleep.

Wednesday/today!: Early day, actually the first day ive had to be here at 9:00. my first design meeting with the CEO and everyone else. kinda crazy, hectic, and long. lunch in the park. the nice park keeper started talking to me and come to find out, the park that i eat lunch in everyday was the first ever "pocket park" and is famous. helped carlos clean his office and sort samples and leathers blah blah. good thing about all that? i got two free bendel's clutches! Its been raining all day and im about to walk home in the rain actually.
and i did. went to the grocery store and barnes and noble with the girls.

4th day and the weekend!
Friday:
Sorted sample leathers all morning with the bosses. Lunch with 2 other interns in my little waterfall park. Amy let me help her pick out new jewelry to attach to handbags. Research all afternoon. Tried to go shopping after work- total waste of time.
because ABC stores here have sample cocktails? Lily came over and we headed to the bars on 2nd. Ended up catching a ride in a limo to the meatpacking district. Lily got us in free and skipped a huge line to the Gansevoort(rooftop bar.) Immediately handed glasses of Veuve. Perfect nightttttt.
Saturday:
Hungover shopping with Lily all day in Soho. Deli (be jealous bekah. )Lots of cute stuff including a Kim Kardashian shirt that I cant stop thinking about wearing. Out for a late dinner because we couldnt handle more alcohol. Went to an Irish pub near my apartment. The owner waited on us. Loving us= discounted bill. Bed.
Things Im really missing right now:
Bojangles, Arthur, laying in Matt's hammock and listening to his music, my princess bed that i dont have to climb a ladder to, my car, carpet, and all of the important people in my life

3rd dayyyyy
walked to work. picked up magazines in the magazine shop. did research on Prada totes. carlos loved it. lunch with lily in the waterfall garden.
Katie and I ran to lily's apartment. yes. from 55th and 3rd to 31st and 9th. ha. we forgot about times square and ended up running through it- which we will never do again. went to kmart.
Wednesday, June 2, 2010
2nd day
new shorts
walked to work. cleaned the entire design room.
met the CEO. he complimented my necklace. my boss, amy, asked me to go buy international magazines at some special store before work in the morning.... and then handed ME her Bendel's company credit card. AHHHH. i feel like a real intern.
new roomie, katie! two katies in the suite now. so, me and the katies took a trip to Trader Joe's! I was more than happy when she said, "$28.34" for arugala for two weeks (that was for ryan.)
FIRST DAY AT BENDEL'S!
Very nervous. I walk to work at 9:00 with all of the other business people and get on the packed subway and get off on 5th ave. It felt soooo weird. My building is a skyscraper on 5th in an amazing location with these crazy security things. I get off on the 4th floor and its seriously just like in the movies. there are huge glass doors and the receptionist buzzes you in. there are huge gold letters spelling out HENRI BENDEL on the wall.
anyways. there other interns too and we do orientation. im working for the two handbag designers and they are both reallly nice. i actually have my own cubicle- even though i spend all of my time in a design room with concept boards. i spent the whole day copying cutting and pinning and left at 5:40.
subway home. anddddd went for a run in central park. i wished bekah was thereeeee (im sure you would have left me 5 mins in anyway.) Ended up running the whole way home through the streets, which is my new favorite thing.
kinda homesick =/

this is my first post in the city
finally here. after the worst day ever. but its ok. because it was worth it.
lots of tears this morning. i didnt think i had a heart but apparently i do. i really miss everyone already.

15 minutes before boarding the plane to NYC i realized i bought a flight to JFK and not La Guardia. not what i pla
nned. i got on anyways. 5 screaming children 2 rows in front of me. on the plane i asked a lady how i should get to Manattan and she told me, "oh take the shuttle bus! its only $25 and there are only 7 other people on it!" ok. so i set up the shuttle bus to arrive in 20 minutes. 45 minutes later i ask ground transportation if i missed them calling my name? "ohhhhhhh yaaaaaaaaaa he come 15 min aaago! we say brittany!!! brittany!!!!! and no brittany!" yea ok. so i end up finally getting in the shuttle after an hour and 45 minutes. i am the only person that speaks english on the bus. 35 minutes later we get there and when he pulls out my DVF bag he says, "oh, this broke," and points to the handle. thanks.
view from my room is amazing. 21st floor. 4 person suite. 2 to each room. suite bathroom and kitchen. still no roommate. met the suite mates, katie and lauren, from Ohio. really cool, laidback, and we get along awesome. resident meeting at 8 where we met some interesting people and stole an entire tray of cookies and pastries.
went on a walk to Staples and the Food Emporium. expensive. duh.
skyped my boyfriend twice. i miss him very much. i opted to not go out tonight because i didnt get any sleep last night so, here i am, on my computer, in my new bed, in ryan's shirt.
